What was a Medieval Manor, it was a district which the lord had a domain and privileges in England. A normal Manor would included a Manor House that was built apart from the village where the peasants had lived. Lords that controlled their manor would build the manor house for his wife and family. They were not controlled by the lord, they were managed by the baliliff. It varied in size according to wealth, the lord regularly consisted of a Great Hall, solar, kitchen, storerooms, and servant quarters. The yeoman owned his own land and he often farmed it himself, the land would be to 30-120 acres. In the Middle Ages the yeoman was required to be armed and trained with a bow, if they were wealthy they were trained and armed with a sword, dagger, and the longbow. They were also employed to protect the nobility.
There were also many people that worked on the Manor. Like a Vassal, a Vassal was a free man who held a fief from a lord. Then there was a Bailiff, it was a person of importance who undertook the management of the manors. Next we have the Reeve, they were a manor official appointed by the lord or they could be elected by the peasants. There is a Serf that is also like a Peasant, they were peasants who worked for the lord and paid him certain dues in return for land. Next is the Peasant or Villein, they were low status Serf's who worked as a laborer, they were usually allowed to have 20-40 acres. Then we have a Cottager, a low class peasant with a cottage, if they had land or not they worked as a simple laborer. Finally we have Servants, they were house peasants who worked in the Manor House, doing the cooking, the cleaning, laundry, and more household chores.
